We recently considered no longer offering Paypal as one of our payment options for our customer’s. Regardless what Paypal claims, most businesses do not use Paypal. Considering that only 3% of our customers chose Paypal over standard credit card checkout also led to our decision.

Investigating the reputation of Paypal also led to our decision. Considering that in 2007 if you were to type in the phrase “Problem with Paypal”, you would get approx. 5 million listing. That is pretty bad considering that at this time only about 15-16 million people (paypal’s numbers) used Paypal. That is actually pretty scary.

Type this same phrase today (2011) and you will get 55 million! Today Paypal claims they have 94 million users. Well over half of their entire customer base, if you believe Paypal’s numbers. I would bet money that this is a very exaggerated number. That is even scarier!

We have decided that due to the reputation that Paypal has and we here at note4note.us would rather not be associated with a business that is known for stealing from their customers, freezing their accounts and the list of evil deeds that Paypal does goes on and on.

In addition to this, when we run special sales for those on our notification list.  We noticed some of our customer’s could not enter the coupon code if they used Paypal.  Paypal would also wreck havoc for some users when trying to get free shipping. (all order’s over $75.00 ship free)

We hope the small percentage of customer’s that did use the Paypal option will feel comfortable using their credit card. We use First Data, and have for years. We have never had an issue with this company.  They have rock solid security, second to none.

To close, we just can’t trust Paypal and we hope you understand that we are trying to help protect you the consumer.

From the very beginning, we have had the same philosophy on what a note for note product should be. It is really not that complicated. We decided at the start that we would decipher the entire song note for note. We wanted to include all of the guitars, including all the overdubs. That means all of the electric guitars and all of the acoustics.

We were not and we still are not interested in producing/releasing anything like all the other companies’ release. One look at many of the products out there can be confusing. One thing that amazes us is the methods that some of these companies will employ. The latest trend is the review tactic. . This is not the only industry that this occurs in. This is where Jamorama or Learn & Play affiliates create bogus web sites and review products. The problem with this tactic is there are hundreds of these sites doing the exact same reviews. All of these sites are reviewing the exact same products, because they are affiliates. They do not care if you learn how to play the guitar or not. One look in Google and you will see one after the other of the “smart guy reviews”. If we had a nickel for every one that has complained about this scam, we would be rich.

On many occasions we have customers who have bought these products and realized that they got burned. What a shame this is, and again this industry is not the only one that has this problem. Why Google allows these types of sites to rank high in the organic search does not make sense. You do a search in Google and it is just one right after the other of the exact same product, just a different web site.

This blog is for all you guitarist out there. Regardless of the style of music you like, one thing is true. The search for accurate guitar tab is a daunting task. There are millions of guitar tabs on the Internet. You can go to any of the several guitar tab web sites or you tube. One thing remains constant. It is next to impossible to find accurate guitar tab.

I have been playing guitar for several years. I know how to play guitar. By no means am I the greatest guitarist or even close. I do have a pretty good ear and I can tell when something sounds right.

It is pretty easy to find guitar tab for a song you want to learn. The problem is when you do find it; it’s not even close. They get some parts close, but 99.9% of all of the tab is pure garbage. So what do you do?

How about the official released songbooks with the guitar tab included? They should be pretty accurate right? Guess again…

They don’t even include everything! They may get parts of it right (the simple parts that we all can figure out anyway). They have the guitar in tunings that are not correct and usually have you playing something in the wrong position. It is very irritating to buy a songbook and it is not even correct on the tab. These are the official releases.

The only thing left to save the day is the instructional videos. There are many to choose from. What most claims are that they will teach and show you how to play eight or so songs of the artist you choose. That seems pretty cool, not only can you hear someone play the song you can watch them break it down into bite-size bits and play them for you. But are they accurate?

There is loads of crap out there. The majority are some guy in his bedroom showing you the licks while he plays along with the recording. Like youtube, this is a very hit and miss search. Ebay has individuals selling these DVD’s and they are pathetic. Horrible stuff in the video market is out there.

I decided to do a test and see what is really out there. I picked a song that was pretty popular; in fact I believe it is even in the game Guitar Hero or Rock Band. I also wanted to make sure that I could get the song in any of the above mentioned formats. Guitar Tab, You Tube Video, Official released guitar tablature book and a couple of guitar instructional videos.

The song I chose was “Welcome To The Jungle” By Guns and Roses. You may ask why that song? Besides the above-mentioned reason’s, I also wanted a song that had several guitars going at one time in the song. One listen to this song and you can hear at least three guitars. So there are many guitars going and all the guitars are blended together and also have very similar guitar tones.

First I tried the free guitar tab, some of it seemed close but when I finally got some of the guitar parts down, something just did not sound right. I figured maybe they were showing the guitar tab in the wrong position. Either way it did not sound right. Needless to say all of the guitars were not tabbed in the free guitar tab. I tried more than one version of the song. Most of the tab versions of this song were horrible, not even close. I finally gave up on this method. I learned some parts and I could tell they were close to what Slash played, but not exactly right.

Next I decided to try You Tube. Most of the video’s found were of some kid in a junky bedroom with horrible lighting. You could learn the basic basics but you still will not feel like you really know the song.

Which brings to the question, why do we guitarist want to figure out a song? There are several reasons, for example if you are in a band and you want to play the song or you just want to learn how to play some of the cool licks. There are other reasons like, you want to grab the cool licks and incorporate them into you arsenal of licks. For me personally I want to go deeper than that. I want to know, as much about the song and what was played as is possible.

The next item to try was the official guitar tab book. I must say it was pretty hard to find a copy of this tab book for Gun’s and Roses. Now here was something that looked like I could sink my teeth into it. Well, it is much better than You Tube guitar lessons or the free guitar tab. There were a lot of parts that were explained better and had multiple guitars in it. The problem is the same old same old. They have you playing in the wrong position on the guitar neck. One thing that I find very irritating is the songbook tells you to repeat the exact same thing that is in verse one for verse two and three! One listen to this song and it is so obvious that that is not the case. Another problem is the voicings in the chords are way off. Not all chords, just some of them. They just do not sound right. Now it’s getting pretty expensive to find the correct way to play this song.

Well, we are starting to run out of options. It is time to go the “Instructional Guitar Video” also know as “Video Guitar Lessons”. You what I am talking about, the kind you can purchase on DVD. My first stop was

I put the Lick Library DVD in first. At first glance, I was impressed. They had all the sections listed. So let’s dig in. I watched the video two times, on the second pass I got some blank tab sheets and wrote out everything they said to play note for note. This is pretty cool, or so I thought. I then put the next DVD in by Note4Note.US. I was greeted with this menu with 35 or so “chapters” or sections as note4note calls them. Lick Library only has about 8 or so menu items and two of them are for credits and what not.

Both Lick Library and Note4Note started out with the same open lick and they both played it the same. Then Note4Note started going through the various sections. I must say on more than one occasion, they would play a part or a section and I would think that is not in the song. I would then put the Guns and Rose’s CD in and sure enough, there it was, and I never really noticed that before. Then I became engrossed in this song. Every single note on that record, Note4Note.US shows you how to play it. There are so many licks in here that you will not find in any other format or any other DVD, that it is mind-boggling!

It is also obvious that Lick Library pretty much copied their parts out of the official songbook. That is what it seemed like to me. I can not stress this point enough.

Remember when I said that I wrote out every single note that Lick Library said to play? It was a total of two pages. I wrote out everything Note4Note.US said to play as well. TEN! Pages That’s right TEN PAGES! When I got the Lick Library DVD, I noticed that they had several songs on this DVD set. I was a little worried when I was ordering the Gun’s and Roses from Note4Note. Note4Note.US was a two-dvd set as well but only had two songs. Welcome To The Jungle and Mr. Brownstone. Now I know why, it took over an hour to show you all the parts to one song. I do not think they could have fit another song on the DVD’s!

Another aspect of the two different companies is the sound quality. Both have great sound, but I found the LickLibrary sound on the guitars was nothing like the song they were showing you how to play. They also had this annoying slap delay on everything bouncing left and right. This got old after a while. I was impressed with Note4Note’s sound for the simple reason is they had a sound that was very close to the original recording. Part of the success on the Guns And Roses DVD set was that a Gibson Les Paul was used in the Guitar Lesson. I have noticed from buying some of the other video guitar lessons from Note4Note that this is the case with all of the DVD’s they sell. They nailed Hendrix and even nailed Robert Johnson. Some of the sounds for the Jimmy Page sets are pretty impressive as well. Again, a minor point, but when you are learning a song, this does make it a little bit more enjoyable.

I tried other DVD sets

I now am positive that I know how to play every bit of this song. Needless to say I never have put the Lick Library DVD in again. I am now a huge fan of Note4Note. In the guitar tab world, they are the new reigning kings. I have ordered a few more from Note4Note.US. They cover many great artist like Led-Zeppelin, Clapton, Hendrix, even John Mayer Robert Johnson, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Neil Young, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan and a lot more. You owe it to yourself to avoid the wasted time and Money and learn the song correctly. Hopefully, I have given you a good description of what is out there and what to expect.

I assumed that these guys look like they could show you how to play this song and play it right. I also bought the same song from another Video Guitar Lesson Company called Note4Note.Us. This company seemed to know what they were doing as well. So here we go with the video guitar lessons.(I believe it was called Signature Licks)and found their format pretty much the same as LickLibrary.
